What is Sclerotherapy?
It is believed that the development of excessive new nerves and veins in and around tendon sheaths are responsible for a major part of the pain caused by chronic tendinopathy. This abnormality can only and should be visualised by utrasonography.
The closure of veins leads to reduction in the level of pain originating from the tendon.
Where Do We Use Sclerothapy?
The proven effective areas are the Achilles and patellar tendons. Research has shown that sclerothapy ismost effective in mid-portion Achilles tendiopathy. It is also effective in chronic patellar tendinopathy. The procedure is always carried out under ultrasound guidance.
